Early Life and Education

Barnes was born on March 9, 1980, in Santa Clara, California, to an African-American mother and a Caucasian father. His financially stable parents raised him, and he has enjoyed financial stability since childhood. A Prominent Del Campo High School American football and basketball team member, he excelled in both sports, earning All-American, All-State, All-City, and All-League honors.

Barnes played basketball and football for the University of California, Los Angeles in college. He played four seasons at UCLA before turning pro. He was named Honorable Mention All-Pacific-10.

Career

In the 2002 NBA draft, Barnes was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round. It wasn’t long after playing for the Long Beach Jam in 2003 that he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers the following year. The following year, he retired from basketball. He led the American Basketball Association (ABA) Championship against the new team by winning points 24-7.

Because of his accomplishments, the Clippers have decided to extend his contract for the remainder of the season. During Barnes’ one year with the Phoenix Suns, he received two two-game suspensions, and then he played for two years with the Orlando Magic. The New York Knicks waived Barnes after he missed just six games.
